They do this by involving themselves in their communities and the world by applying their skill, knowledge, and capabilities to reconfigure destructive narratives and practices.
Viridis ecological psychology programs and outcomes focus on the Essential Employability Qualities (EEQs) most often cited by employers as lacking in the workspace: clear communication, critical and creative (out-of-the-box) thinking and problem solving, inquiry, ethical reasoning, collaboration, response-responsibility, professionalism, global citizenship, and lifelong learning.
Viridis Graduate Institute's MA and DA Graduates in Ecopsychology and Environmental Humanities practice as non-licensed ecopsychology professionals, much like environmental or conservation psychology professionals, cultural ecologists, ecological sociologists, and social or cultural ecologists.
Professionals in ecopsychology and environmental humanities are skilled in assessing narrative frameworks and their resulting behaviors and attitudes that result in known and unknown detrimental practices.
Ecopsychology professionals investigate intra-actions among naturehumans and natureculture for relationships that promote flourishing and those that promote toxicity (attitudes can pollute and infect as much as any virus or pollutant) affecting an entire social and ecological ecosystem.
Ecopsychologists examine and assess narratives and practices that result in environmental and societal degradation and injustice (e.g. poverty, unfair lack of access to education, healthcare, technologies, and markets, gender bias, sexism, misogynism, racism, etc.). They are trained to work with environmental and social first-responders and trauma; environmental grief, structuring effective community and group activism; working with communities coping with trauma from an ecological disaster; psychological impacts of natural disasters and climate crisis, conservation issues and conflicts; and ecopsychological applications for existing clinical and therapeutic professionals.
Where We Work
Viridis graduates utilize advanced psychological capabilities and ecological knowledge to work with groups, businesses, institutions, and communities for creative and innovative ideas to reconfigure disparaging narrative intra-actions. Thus changing behaviors and practices (or products, communication styles, policy, etc.) that are causing ecological / social / economic impoverishment.
Ecopsychology professionals work in a variety of professions that include consulting, education, coaching, where they provide their expertise to businesses, corporations, nonprofit organizations, institutions, government agencies, and industry. Those with teaching experience (and a doctoral degree) may also become faculty at colleges and universities.
For clinical and counseling psychology providers with existing licensure, a degree in ecopsychology expands your 'therapeutic toolkit' such that you are skilled in working with the loss and grief of those people, businesses, and communities suffering from ecological devastation.
Ecopsychology professionals may be employed by educational institutes, schools, civic governments, national and state park agencies, religious organizations, and medical establishments as ecopsychology educators. Or, they may be employed by housing, planning, and environmental agencies, or landscaping and architecture firms.
Employment in life, physical, and social science occupations is projected to grow 5 percent from 2019 to 2029, faster than the average for all occupations, and will result in about 68,200 new jobs. Increasing demand for expertise in the sciences, particularly in occupations involved in biomedical research, psychology, energy management, and environmental protection, is projected to result in employment growth.
The median annual wage for life, physical, and social science occupations was $69,760 in May 2020, which was higher than the median wage for all occupations of $41,950.
Environmental specialists and health practitioners conduct research or perform investigation for the purpose of identifying, abating, or eliminating sources of pollutants or hazards that affect either the environment or public health. Using knowledge of various scientific disciplines, may collect, synthesize, study, report, and recommend action based on data derived from measurements or observations of air, food, soil, water, and other sources. Excludes "Zoologists and Wildlife Biologists" (19-1023), "Conservation Scientists" (19-1031), "Forest and Conservation Technicians" (19-4071), "Occupational Health and Safety Specialists" (19-5011), "Fish and Game Wardens" (33-3031), and "Forest and Conservation Workers" (45-4011).
At Viridis, ecological psychology degrees are non-licensure programs. Graduates who select to practice privately as psychologists, clinicians, or therapists must obtain the proper license to practice, requirements vary by state. The Association of State and Provincial Licensing Boards provides specific information on specific state requirements.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that job growth for other kinds of psychologists and psychology educators will grow 8-14% by 2022. This rate is as fast as the average expected job growth across all industries.
Employers of many kinds of professions and industries are seeking people who bring maturity, ecological literacy, communication competence, creative and critical thinking, integrity and ethics in their leadership skill, and the capability to work with conflictual situations that improve the psychological moral in the workplace is projected to grow 53%, much faster than the average for all occupations.

• Communication competence and capability to sense, analyze, synthesize, and articulate complex information from a variety of ecological and psychological sources and perspectives and be able to communicate findings across sophisticated platforms (written, oral, digital, artistic);
• Ecological & Civic Literacy as the capability to make democratizing moves that invite complexity and difference into a relationship, and to advance justice, aesthetics, generosity, and differences that matter;
• Ecopsychological Sensibility that brings intelligence and sensitivity to a community, business, organization, or institution.
